The Age March*
My age march is for those over fifty who feel the pressure from the media to look, act, and be YOUNGER.
Why?
We get the message that unless we are puffed from Botox, we can’t have a job or romance. Not true!
We should move forward, not backward, to be who we are and not bottled like a Calvin Klein perfume ad.
The first step is not to lie about our age. To be “real.” Then we can have it all. I want anyone who feels the disease of age discrimination to march in protest of ageism, to wear our real age around our necks, on our T shirts and and hats, and wear a Fuschia ribbon around our wrists.
What do you think? Are you with me?

We will march for our REAL FACE of age. Age has no boundaries!
Love Barbara
You can also email me at the email above.
I am a very happy 75 and will march in the age march. Gwen Kilgour
Thank you! March with your pride and refusal to hide your wonderful age. Our numbers have nothing to do with our spirits and new goals.
Keep tuned for details! It’s all going to happen!
Thank you.
Love, Barbara
TEll your friends!
Fantastic idea! I will be t here. I am so much better in every way than when I was in my twenties or thirties; healthier, more vibrant, more evolved, have more sincere interest in family and friends, love deeper, know so much more about everything and yet know I don’t know anything, take better care and so much more! I am going to be 55 in May!
Herb Hirsch, Susan Wintersteen, Beverly Schatz, David Ravinsky and Diane Ravinsky will be marching with us, Barbara.
Great. Thank you for help. I will list their names.
Love, Barbara
I’m 65 years old and ready to march! Finally…a chance to join together to show support for who really are. Thanks for this much needed opportunity!
I will march in the age march and look forward to it.
Margaret Woodside-
I’m 56 and fabulous. I look forward to hearing when and where the march will be. I have grown into a woman that values friends and experiences over stuff. I’ve grown to appreciate what my body does for me day in and day out. I am proud of what I have accomplished in my life AND relish all there is for me to explore and enjoy. I surround myself with people who love ME, not an image. Life is a grand ride, enjoy every minute!
You are FABULOUS to march, to show other fabulous women that they are fabulous and don’t need to lie about their age!
Thank you. Also send me your email, please. Or put it on here so I have it.
and to update you about the age march.
Love, Barbara
you go girl! I’ll have my 73 year old tshirt on!
P atricia. You are a gorgeous blonde angel. Thank you for your help, and support on my novel and on this project.
I can’t wait to march with you! Also please ask for emails so I can update the details about the a march. It is a lot of work but we will get those two thousand signatures!
Love, Barbara
love you Sis
Great that you’re going to march. You are a FAB 65-without the bling. You celebrate yourself. All women who have the guts to tell their age, to march for their REAL face of age will make history in a good sense. They will provide a legacy for their daughters, mothers, grandmothers.
Barbara
I’m 62 and bench press 95 pounds. I wear heels I can run in and make killer chicken soup. Let some 20 something top that!
Count me in on the march!
Deidre Laiken
Deidre-You are fabulous. A fabulous writer-author-March in your heels and
celebrate your age!
Loved meeting you!
Love, Barbara
With you all the way. Count me in.
So glad my Mar. We will be together! In protest of having to be and look like old barbie dolls. It’s a march for our true selves.
Love you,
Barbara
I have been looking for something to do for my daughter turning 50 in March. Now , I have found it and we will have a wonderful time. Thanks
Wonderful. What a legacy for your daughther and for all women who are expected in this society to look, be, and to act like someone else.
We will celebrate not just our age, but who we are!
Love, Barbara
Barbara, it will be a great event!!! Let me know what I can do to assist you. We’re not ready for bingo yet! (and never will be)
Dear Sandy. Glad you signed up. You will be among the first women to march for what I believe is a genuine cause. Age rage and its consistent media message of ANTI-AGE is a message of discrimination. It causes a FAKE FACE OF AGE!
Thank you for being real.
Love, Barbara
This sounds great I just turned 54 and am proud of it. I have my own business and will always look for experienced workers first
Christine. Thank you for signing up for the age march. After the holidays, it will accelerate. Thank you for being amongst the first men and women to march in protest of media pressure to act, look and be younger; not to be true to who we are, to celebrate ourselves and our age.
Please recruit people, and tell them to sign up. Watch the website for details. Also if you can leave your contact info. You can email me.
Thanks. Holiday blessings,
Barbara Rose Brooker
I am 50.
Bravo Stephen.
I am proud that you are marching. Please bring in other men to march with you. We will be the first men and women to march in protest of ageism and celebration of our true age.
Blessings-Barbara
I’m so excited about this march, Barbara! I’m 43 and people tell me that I look much younger. I believe it’s important for everyone to see that you can look and feel great at any age – it’s all about attitude! And having a passion or two. I will be organizing a march in my city and encourage others to do the same. Let’s send a message to the media that age is only a number and that we won’t accept ageism any longer!
Loved the book and am happy to join the movement.
I think this is a wonderful idea. I would be happy to join women and men of all ages and march against age discrimination!!!!!!!! Judy Ichelson Camp
Hi Barb,
I definitely want to join you on the Age March! How inventive and creative! Your book is so wonderful, and it was impossible to put down!!!
You have totally changed the way we can look at age now.
Thank you all for signing up. This is only a beginning. We will start marching around the planet, in protest of ageism, a terrible disease. Society looks down on people in ‘assisted living,’ people we label as seniors and elders. Why are we labeled like plants? We’re people. We’re like flowers that bloom, grow, drop, age, but maintain the beauty of spirit.
Let’s fight this. Let’s not fight age, but embrace it!
Happy holiday. I love you. Barbara
I will be marching along side you proudly owning the big 65 !
We have just begun to live!
Wow. wendy, will I be proud to march with you. You are so beautiful, accomplished and brave. Thank you. You are a major force in this movement of NEW AGE. We march against age rage and sociological trauma. Let’s show our real faces of age.
Love, Barbara and “ANNY APPLEBAUM.”
I already signed up, however I forgot to list my age. I will be 50 in October. As a child of the 60s and a San Franciscan, I look forward to ushering out my 40s with a march. Right on.
Blessings to you. You will be the forerunner to this movement! I envision a society, the next generation of real people with real faces, real relationships. We are the aliens who are fighting a new war.
Some days when my nose is running and my pouches under my eyes are extra huge, I feel like hiding. Not from me, but from the invisibility
that this society, media, everything makes me feel!
Yuk. Love, Barbara
I love it! Your book makes me feel as if I/we don’t have to hide our age any longer – We can still be attractive, sexy, and pursue our dreams….. What a great message….
Count me in! (Can I still get Botox though!)
Of course you can do Botox. Com Cosmetic surgery, etc, is a personal choice. It can be great. It’s not about My march is not about this. It’s about not pretending we’re ten years younger, or someone else. It’s all from the inside. Age is a spirit, not a number.
I need all your help. Believe me, I get choked up on national TV when I show my gray and say my real age. Especially, since I’ve been not telling my real age for so many years. Sorry guys. You lied too!
Blessings to all. Let’s get the men to sign up. They feel the pressure to be
someone else too. DAVID SIGN UP.
LOVE YOU, Barbara
Hi Barbara!
Wow.
What a fabulous idea, count me in…. what does age have to do with life, anyway?
We reveal ourselves through our spirit and open heart.
See you at “The March.”
Nancy R. Yates
Nancy. Thank you. I am so excited you are signing up!
Recruit everyone you can. Because I KNOW that age discrimination is a huge disease! Women are spending their life savings to get injected, to look like a barbie doll because they’re afraid if they don’t, they won’t be accepted in romance, life, jobs, whatever.
The mirror of our society is warped!
Love, Barbara
I’m a beautiful, energetic, healthy and fit, 73 year old woman who thinks life is grand. I’m a working 73 year old and even though I’m usually the oldest person in any situation I find that it couldn’t be more fun to work with people of all ages, both men and women. I call myself an Age Activist, and promote joyful and healthy living wherever and whenever I can. Barbara’s book has spurred us all on and there are plenty of us out there. Many older people are afraid or feel they have lost their power and it’s just not true. The support of seeing other older people living their dreams, creating new dreams and living a joyful life will support others to join in. I’m looking for my next big dream!
I am 58 and am not only proud of it but more proud of myself than when I was 21. Let’s march!!
Diane-thank you. I can’t wait to meet you, to march with you. HEY!
We’re the new women. Let’s fight against the job market, and their silly insistence on age image, and to the romance market, in all sexualities,
races, to be ‘young,’ which means, to fight the beauty of forward growth and spirit. Anyway, don’t get me started.
Cana’t wait to march with you! Happy holiday and soon we’ll meet.
Love, Barbara
Right on women! I too happily state my age and feel proud of the maturity and wisdom I’ve acquired. I am married to a man four years younger, and we mesh well. I have friends of every age. Every year forward is a new beginning, and an opportunity for further acheivement.
To a new youth! Thank you for your message and for signing up! I look forward to marching with you. Spread the word to men and women who are sick of feeling invisible, sad because they don’t fit society’s image of age. Just look at the reality shows on TV–housewives of orange country, fake boobs, fake hair, fake teeth, fake faces, fake words and fake lives and teaching their daughters to do the same. Let’s fight this pressure. They’re beautiful people but pressured to wear masks.
Blessings, Barbasra
I am 55 years and am often telling people my age. I do this so that they know that age comes in all sizes, shapes, and colors and that i am still vibrant and becoming more so………………I am proud of my age and happier in many ways than the days of youth. I would happily march for freedom from ageism!
Evita. Thank you for signing up to march. Thank you for your pride of self. Isn’t it true? Age is not a number! It’s a spirit! Why do we have to –in the name of youth–become what we’re not? The fountain of youth is inside us and will reflect on our faces!
Can’t wait to march with you! Love, Barbara
It is a wonderful idea and yes, I’m with you. At 55, I’ve encountered more age discrimination than I expected when applying for work. It seems that companies would value experience, but it doesn’t seem to be the case. Count me in to march against age discrimination.
Susan. Thank you for all of your support, on the book and the age march. You’re not only a fan but a friend. You are fabulous! I am excited to march with you. Your vibrancy and sense of a true self will inspire others to march.
Love, Barbara
I WILL BE 64 MARCH 28TH AND I AM PROUD OF IT!!!!!! I WOULD LOVE TO MARCH WITH ALL OF YOU..ANY IDEAS WHERE IT WILL BE?
Marji. Keep looking at the website for updates. Keep telling people to sign up. It will start in SF! I am excited that you will march with us. Probably it will be in May or June. Working on allof it now! Keep networking!
And thank you for your ageless self!
Barbara
We need wonderful people of all ages to march in March. Come and join us, sign up now.
Mary. Thank you for all of your support of my novel The Viagra Diaries and of this important march. You are a genuine spirit, willing always to take risk and make the world better. Won’t it be wonderful to have real faces of age, real people instead of the canned Hollywood version with altered faces, fake boobs, and fake selves. To be true to thy self is why we’re marching.
Thank you! Love, Barbara
