Kathie Lee and Hoda interview Barbara on the Today Show

You can have it all!

In her latest novel, The Viagra Diaries, San Francisco author Barbara Rose Brooker has a personal story to tell about aging, age discrimination, love, and sex after sixty. Brooker examines the phenomenon of the Viagra generation, Internet dating for those over sixty, the fallacies and ups and downs of romantic love. Is it possible in the Viagra generation? She believes “after sixty” is a time to begin, not to settle.

Anny Applebaum is seventy and writes The Viagra Diaries, a San Francisco weekly column researching sixty-plus boomers looking for love. She is looking for a story. She places ads on Internet singles sites and interviews men over sixty. Divorced for thirty years, Anny has given up on love and wants fame and fortune.

On a date, Anny meets and interviews Marv Rothstein, a handsome, seventy-five-year-old, emotionally-unavailable diamond dealer. Anny is attracted to Marv, and they become involved in a torrid sexual affair. But very soon, Anny discovers that the elusive Marv is a Serial Dater prowling the singles sites for younger women and still seeing his much younger ex-wife. Anny decides to write a series of columns about a man who can’t face aging, calling him Mr. X and modeling him after Marv. As Anny’s Mr. X columns gain recognition, she struggles with her conflict about Marv, her career hopes, relationships, and her coming of age.

Author Barbara Rose Brooker is tired of the demands society makes on age; the labels such as senior, and doesn’t think women should hide their age. She wants to organize a worldwide AGE MARCH for women over sixty, with the women wearing their numbers in protest of ageism in the US and the demands to hide age and the beauty of natural aging.

“Aging well isn’t about botox! It’s about the spirit! It’s a time not to hide your age but to go forward, not backwards, to re-invent yourself, to write that book, make that movie, and find true love with great sex. Is true love and great sex possible after sixty in the Viagra generation? Or does Viagra provide sixty-plus men with perpetual sexual experiences and not intimate love? “

Like the last part of a wonderful book, it’s a time for love, sex, triumphs, to make old dreams come true, to climb the highest and newest mountain. There are no rules! Live Life To The Fullest!

The Viagra Diaries is available at Llumina Press, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and major bookstores.

Actually, I think our numbers should be on big shocking pink buttons to match the shocking pink logo I designed. it is a line that goes up and never stops…like age. Numbers cannot make us stop growing, loving, yearning, pursuing.

I love the holidays. And I look forward to steady sign-ups for this age march. Though it might be in MAY instead of MARCH as we have a LONG way to go to get 2,000 signups.

TELL YOUR FRIENDS. BE THE FIRST TO MARCH FOR AGE~! TO CELEBRATE YOUR AGE.

Hello everyone. I think after the holidays, the age march sign up will speed up.
In my dream, we are all marching–men and women of differet ages. Our true age numnbers are printed on our t shirts. We wear pink ribbons for to match the log.o. It is very important that we march to stop the horrors of seeing mothers and daughters, lots of teenage daughters, on television, proudly redoing their faces, breasts, all to hide and prevent age…the daughters to “maintain youth,” as one mother said.
Today is Sunday. I didinothing today but li eat and watch movies. I love the movie about Julia Child. I love her truth, her sense of self, her cooking.
So in the honor of Julia, and perhaps Virginia Woolf,, Madeline Albright, Hilary Clinton, our first lady, women who dare to be true to themselves and to their age, let’s MARCH!
More, soon,
Love, Barbara

Our first step to liberation is to tell our real ages. It’s like saying, here I am, ready to go. I love you and myself. Go for it. Then who knows? We might have a real society. Again, what good is an unlined face with low self esteem, fear of aging? Ick.

Love you. SIGN UP TO MARCH,
Barbara

I love you all! Everyone who signs up to march is a soul mate. We are marching not for publicity, but for our individuality-not to be bottled and puffed like a Calvin Klein perfume ad. It is liberating to feel true and good to yourself.

It took me 73 years to do so and I want to fight for it now. All of us have experienced age discrimination in some form–romance-internet dating-job-pushed aside-labeled ’sweetie,’ or, ‘hon,’ or pushed to the back of the line. It goes on and on, but mostly we’re taught to LIE about our age. don’t.

Our first step to liberation is NOT TO LIE about our ages. If I can say on national TV that I’m 73, you can do it. So let’s wear our numbers around our necks and with our true age MARCH IN MARCH. SIGN UP!. LOVE, Barbara

What a great & fun interview! I love your message of inner acceptance & being sexy from the inside out. “The fountain of youth lives inside of us.” Wow!

Thank you for saying so. It really does. As I say, it took me 73 years to do this. I think it’s telling our true age is a way of saying, hello, me. I also think true glamour and sex appeal comes from within. What good is the unlined face with low self esteem. Ick.

Our first step to liberation is to tell our real ages. It’s like saying, here I am, ready to go. I love you and myself. Go for it. Then who knows? We might have a real society.

Love you. SIGN UP TO MARCH,
Barbara

Anyway, thank you spirit mate. I can’t wait to march with you. Get everyone you can to sign up so we can do the march.

Holiday blessings. Love, Barbara

I love the interview and am posting a link on my Naked at Our Age Facebook fan page. I’m so glad you are willing to give your real age and talk out loud about these issues, as I do. I agree that we need to confront the stereotypes and the invisibility of being sexy seniors. I’d like to review your book on my blog and on Naked at Our Age Facebook fan page — can you contact me about sending a review copy?

Barbara!

It was such a pleasure to meet you today. I still cannot believe how coincidental that was – particularly since I’d just finished telling Muriel all about you and your commonwealth club appearance only to look over and see you sitting next to us. Wow. I’m a firm believer in the law of attraction and for me this is proof positive that it works!

You were so gracious to take the time to chat with us despite our interrupting you and your friends and I’d like to thank you for that.

Hello Marji. I hope you will sign up to march at the Age March.
It is really happening. It will happen around the country. You will march with my group. We will be the first ever. I am so SICK of the media ads insisting that we use ANTI_wrinkle cremes, ANTI -AGE cremes, ANTI, ANTI, ANTI. Why are we ANTI? We are wonderful, lucky selves to age-anyway, it’s all wonderful what is happening. I am still waiting to hear about the movie–and am writing the sequel right now.
Keep in contact.
Holiday blessings and tell everyone to sign up for march.
Love, Barbara Rose Brooker
